Wausau and the surrounding area has a rich and spirited local jazz history that continues today, and is home to a stronghold of experienced and talented jazz musicians, ranging in age from teenagers to folks in their 80’s. The River Valley Jazz Society fosters this lush and valuable history, and cultivates its continuing appreciation with students and adults alike. 



Tim Buchholz: Dr. Tim Buchholz is a nationally recognized jazz singer, educator, and arranger. As a soloist and group singer he has performed at venues and performance halls throughout the US and in Europe. Tim’s vocal jazz arrangements have been performed throughout the country by college and high school jazz vocal groups, and have been used for numerous all-state vocal jazz ensembles.


Jazz Central Voices: UWMC Jazz Central Voices is a select community vocal jazz ensemble at UW-Marathon County.  The group consists of community members from central Wisconsin and beyond, including music educators, current music majors, and other professionals with strong backgrounds in music.  The ensemble's repertoire includes classic big band era swing tunes, a cappella arrangements of jazz standards, and modern vocal jazz compositions.


The Jazzberries: Jazz trio with a vocalist playing cool jazz and standards. The Jazzberries combine guitar, clarinet, and voice for unique improvisations and scatting. 

 


Michael Fischer, piano: Mike can be found performing solo piano as well as with a wide variety of groups including Fischer Family Jazz—an ensemble of his family members—Jazz Central Voices, John Greiner Big Band, and Green Bay Jazz Orchestra. He has arranged and performed with the ACME Jazz Company in the Twin Cities and recorded with them on their 2014 CD release featuring midwest crooner, Arne Fogel.

Dave Keeffe, drummer:  Traditional New Orleans Jazz and FunkRock, with The NewOrleans Hothouse Jazz Band and many other bands and musicians. Dave is also an experienced audio engineer for bands including The Station and primary AV engineer and music director for the annual Wausau Festival of Arts.

Lee Kusserow, string bass player:  Familiar with jazz, big band, Dixieland, country, rock. Available May through November. Over 60 years experience. 


New Orleans Hot House Jazz.jpg

New Orleans Hot House Jazz: A lively six-piece New Orleans style band with a female vocalist offering an entertaining blend of Ragtime, Dixieland, and Small Group Swing. For booking information, contact Jim LaPointe at 715-218-0182.


Denise Sauter: Surrounding herself with the finest jazz musicians in the state, Denise and her band provide a wonderful and eclectic mix of the great standards to the more contemporary sounds of Norah Jones and Sting, blended in with a dash of funky rhythm and blues.

Performing as a duo to five-piece band, Denise can add sweet jazz ambience to a cocktail party, and also offer dynamic entertainment in a concert setting.  DeniseSauterJazz.com

Peter Stoltman, drummer:  Coming from a background with a wide range of playing experience, Peter Stoltman is a drummer/percussionist with a jazz heart. His education credits include both the DePaul University and Elmhurst College jazz programs.
